Every year, since 2003, at the end of February/beginning March, a standard 42.2 km marathon, 21.1 km half marathon and 5 km fun run are held in the town of Moshi, in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. .

Each year, people are invited to join the Kilimanjaro Marathon in the city of Moshi, Tanzania. This standard 42.2 km race, 21.1 km half marathon and 5 km fun run has the official backing of the Tanzania Tourist Board, the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association, the IAAF, and is registered with AIMS.

The route runs at an altitude between 830 and 1150m also on good tarred roads, and is graced by the looming presence of the mountain in the background. With local crowd support and refreshment points, the run is an excellent qualifier for everyone. In 2024 Tunza Foundation Participated in the Kili Marathon by picking up litters and trash thrown by the runners on the 21.1 km  track.
